Tournament Team Registration

One of the most exciting parts of Little League Baseball/Softball is playing over the summer and River Forest Youth Baseball Softball (RFYBS) is always thrilled to be a part of the softball teams at the 8U, 10U and 12U levels, and the baseball teams at the 8U, 9U, 10U, 11U, and 12U levels. While state tournament baseball applies to the 10U, 11U and 12U levels, state tournament softball applies to the 10U and 12U levels only.  While the state tournament teams recognize the hard work, dedication, and attitude that some players bring to their game, it is neither the purpose nor the most important part of RFYBS. Instead, it is a reward for the few players who, based upon the perception of the Head Coaches, demonstrate the best combination of:

· Playing ability (pitching, fielding, batting, and baseball/softball IQ);

· Character (sportsmanship and attitude); and

· Availability/Dedication (100% commitment to team, willingness to practice, work hard and strive to achieve goals).

Not every Player makes a state tournament team and those left out often include some who may be deserving of selection. But like any other subjective process, there is no perfect system. All we can hope is that we make it as fair and accurate as possible, while always supporting the ideals of Little League Baseball/Softball. And for those Players who do not make a state tournament team, RFYBS will do whatever it can to support as many summer tournament teams as possible for those Players. For more information on the RFYBS state tournament guidelines, please visit http://www.rfybs.com.

If your child is interested in playing summer softball or baseball, she or he must be registered by May 15, 2018 at http://www.rfybs.com,. In order to ensure that RFYBS plans for the precise amount of players and teams in terms of tournament scheduling, uniform ordering, coach selecting, etc., the May 15, 2018 date is a strict deadline for all summer softball and baseball registrants.  Any late registrant will be placed on a waiting list for RFYBS to determine if there is room for that late registrant in light of the number of players and teams RFYBS already planned for. Summer softball/baseball is definitely a significant step-up from our House League program, so if you have any questions about the levels of commitment, competition, and travel involved, please do not hesitate to contact Marty Meehan ([email protected]) for softball or Michael Goldberg ([email protected]) for baseball.  If you are in interested in head coaching a summer softball/baseball team, please register accordingly. Again, for more detailed information about how summer teams and coaches are selected, or about summer baseball or softball in general, please visit http://www.rfybs.com.
